He said the membership drive would take off with the unfurling of the national flag by PML President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain in the Federal capital and presidents of provincial PML at their respective headquarters simultaneously on February 4.
He said in each district the flag hoisting ceremony will be performed by respective district presidents and if any district is without a president, the District Co-ordinator of the party will perform the ceremony.
He informed that the policy chalked out for membership in the Sindh province was reviewed at a meeting headed by Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh, general secretary PML Sindh and it was realised that a good progress had been achieved and good planning done whereby a full team has been formed, which will meet the people and apprise them about the decisions taken.
Senator Nisar Memon said that the membership drive would help strengthen democracy in the country.
He pointed out that democracy needs institutional requirements and the Pakistan Muslim League is today the only organisation, which thinks by remaining above personal considerations and is strengthening the institutions.
He said: "Elected institutions comprise parliament and assemblies, while other institutions include the political parties."
He expressed the hope that other parties, too, would strengthen their institutions by remaining above personality cult, because the country will become strong only when institutions will be strengthened.
"The way PML is getting itself strengthened, other parties should also follow its suit."
He told newsmen that after completion of party membership, its roots would reach from primary level to union, thesil, district and provincial level whereafter, elections for local office-bearers will be held.
To a question Senator Nisar Memon said that any citizen of Pakistan can become a member of the Pakistan Muslim League, no matter if he had affiliation with any other party in the past.
He said a great amount of zeal has developed among the PML workers and people with regard to the party's membership drive and it was due to the fact that so far the PML had not chalked out any such programme at national level and 'it is for the first time that the membership drive is being carried out in such a massive scale.'
PLANS FINALISED: Addressing the press the additional secretary general PML and convenor of Central Membership Committee, Mohammed Iqbal Dar said that it was the final meeting with reference to membership arrangements in the provinces and all the four provinces have finalised their programmes.
In the first phase, he said, five million target has been fixed for the PML membership and it will be achieved in two months.
He said PML workers and office-bearers would hoist PML flags at their houses and set up offices in their respective areas.
Iqbal Dar said the PML central leadership has decided to associate the people in consultations for alleviation of poverty and unemployment. 'The party will solve the problems of people with their consultation,' he said.
He stated with confidence that justice and prosperity will be visible not only at the gross root level but throughout the country and people would themselves acknowledge that the country is passing through a historic phase wherein people would benefit from the PML government.
To a question both Nisar Memon and Iqbal Dar said that no disciplinary action would be taken against a worker, who would not hoist the flag at his house or office.
